YOUTH & COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Arts for Community Growth

Poetavango uses the arts to educate, empower and positively engage young people and communities through storytelling, workshops, creative writing, performance, sport-for-impact and public learning spaces.

As a community-based organisation, Poetavango supports Maun and other communities through projects geared toward youth and artistic development. The organisation has worked with schools, learners, teachers, youth workers and community members through workshops, symposiums, performances and learning programmes.

SCORE PROGRAMME

Sport for social impact

Through SCORE, Poetavango helped bring together youth-focused sport and social impact activities. The programme trained youth workers in sport event management, social impact, social entrepreneurship and innovation, using learning-by-doing as a practical method for community regeneration.

MY BOTSWANA STORYTELLING

Pen, voice and technology

My Botswana Storytelling worked with learners in Maun, Ghanzi and Gaborone through creative writing, oral storytelling and literary technology. The project helped young people tell stories through pen and paper, voice and microphone, and technology-based literary tools.

A resource hub at the Maun Public Library

The Maun Public Library programme created monthly platforms for workshops, speeches, book readings, launches, performances, film screenings, computer literacy and public learning. It reinforced culture, encouraged information access and created a resource hub for youth, artists and community members.
