Poetavango to Host First National Slam Championships

The Poetavango Collective will, in May 2020, introduce and host the first ever national slam competitions. The contest, which is intended to be an annual activity, will feature poets/slammers from across the country. Participants have to be Botswana citizens and should be above 18 years of age. It shall be titled National Slam Championship Botswana (NSCB).

The first contest will take place in Maun, Botswana, but every year, the event will change location to other parts of the country. This is a move meant to ensure that the competition goes to the people.

The winner of winner of the title will move on to represent the country at the Coupe’d Afrique de Slam Poesie (CASP) which is the Cup for African Slam Poetry. CASP will be held in November 2020 in Ethiopia. This will be the second edition of the continental championship, the first of which took place in Chad in 2018.

Poetavango calls for dedicated slammers to register for the national competition. There will be prizes for the top 3 winners, which will be announced at a later stage since the organisers are still seeking sponsorship for the event.

To register for the championship, email your request and artist bio to poetavango@hotmail.com
